Review: Nonabox is a new concept to the UK; a monthly subscription box for new babies & mums-to-be. Basically, you pay a monthly fee and in exchange you get a box of mystery products delivered to your door. Nonabox provide boxes from pregnancy to 2 years old.

It makes a great gift for new mums, with different pricing structures for different length subscriptions. There is no option for sending a one off box as a gift though, which is a shame I think – I would be happy to buy a one-off box for a friend with a new baby, but I don’t think I would plump for a full 3-month subscription at £70. I love my friends but we just couldn’t afford that much!

When this first Nonabox arrived, I have to admit I was fairly impressed! The box was literally bursting open thanks to the volume of products packed inside. I was impatient to get it open and investigate what treats lay in store.

Here’s a rundown of my first Nonabox:

Cloud B – Sheep pillow

£16.99

The Cloud B sheep pillow was included as a special promotion for the first Nonabox subscribers, and very nice it is too. Although this sheep is for over 3 years (due to the lavender pouch inside I guess), I could easily put this near her crib so the lavender scent floats through to Lydia as she sleeps. This is a really lovely toy and converts into a pillow for toddlers to enjoy. The lavender pouch is removable so you can take it out if your baby finds the scent a bit strong.

MAM Anti-Colic bottle

£5.00 (RRP £15.50 for 3)

I think these self sterilising bottles are ridiculously clever. Although I breastfeed Lydia, I do occasionally express milk for her to be given by someone else if I need to go out etc. She isn’t keen on any of the bottles we have tried but happily takes milk from a sippy cup. I use a MAM breast pump though sometimes, and am pleased to have this neat bottle to pump into & store expressed milk in. Breast feeding mums like myself tend not to have much in the way of sterilising equipment (I use a small microwave one) so a bottle that sterilises on its own is a real space saver.

MAM first toothbrush – 6 months

£3.50

This is officially Lydia’s first toothbrush! We haven’t had any teeth appear yet but they are certainly on the way, and this will be waiting in the wings ready for their appearance. It looks like a lovely first toothbrush.

Super Crawlerz sleepsuit – 9-12 months

£19.99 (currently half price so could buy for £9.99)

Whilst being slightly strange that we were sent a blue one instead of pink or white, this sleepsuit with added grip is brilliant! Crawlerz are designed to make crawling babies safer by providing them with more grip as they pull their knees up underneath them. Nonabox sent us a 9-12 size one which I was actually quite pleased with – Lydia isn’t the smallest 6 month old ever and she will get more wear out of this. With the sleeves rolled up it fits her quite nicely already, and she is trying to get moving so is at the perfect stage for a product like this.

(knocked down one for sending the wrong colour – not that bothered personally, but it would annoy some mums!)

Bibetta neoprene ultrabib

£4.50

This is a really lovely bib as it’s super easy to rinse or wipe clean and doesn’t require a trip through the washing machine after every meal, like Lydia’s fabric bibs do! It fits her perfectly, and she seems comfortable in it too. This bib has a pouch to catch dropped chunks of food – perfect for a weaning baby! As with the Crawlerz sleepsuit I was given the blue instead of the purple.

(again, only 4 stars due to incorrect colour picking)

Waterwipes sample pack – 10 wipes

79p

Waterwipes are great wipes for young babies although we only used them for the early newborn months due to their slightly higher price. While it would have been nice to have a full size pack instead of sample size, I honestly don’t think it would have fitted into the box! This pack will be handy for popping in Georgie’s rucksack when we go out.

Gumigem Bermuda bangle

£8.95

I love gumigem teethers, and so does Lydia! Chewable jewellery that looks great and keeps your child occupied – these are perfect for special occasions and going out with your baby without a brightly coloured teether spoiling the look! Lydia has been happily chomping on this bangle since the box arrived.

Neuners Nursing Tea (20 teabags)

£4.49

I must admit I haven’t tried this tea as I’m not mad on herbal teas, but I’m happy to have it in the house. As it contains fenugreek it is a natural option to boost your milk supply, and I will be gulping some of this down next time I’m feeling run down & dehydrated and worried my supply will suffer as a result. It’s great to see a breastfeeding product in there!

Ellas Kitchen fruit pouch, apple, 4 months +

79p

These fruit pouches are great and I was happy to see one in the box. I noticed from their Facebook page that older kids receiving the box got a meal from the same brand instead, a great example of how the boxes are tailored to age. It would have been nice to have a couple of these in different flavours, though, as they’re not very big, or a particularly high value item.

Nonabox say that they guarantee that the value of your received products adds up to more than the cost of the box, and that was certainly the case with this box. In fact, the values of the items added up to more than double the cost, even if I took into account the fact crawlerz sleepsuits are avaliable at half price at the moment.

All of the products were relevant to me & Lydia, and we discovered a few brands that we hadn’t heard of or seen in the flesh before. One of the best things about this type of subscription box is the opportunity to find cool new products you would have missed out on otherwise, so it’s great to see some of the lesser known brands we already love in there too, like gumigem & water wipes.

We are giving our first Nonabox a four star rating, and are looking forward to seeing our next two boxes!
