Review: When we received theBabaSling to review, I was a little bit intimidated and nervous about it. All of our previous baby wearing experience comes from using a “crotch dangler” that we didn’t like too much, or traditional style wrap slings. This one shoulder style sling was completely new to us.
The sling itself has a large pocket that you sit your baby in, with two “rails” that are tightened with two straps, connected to one big buckle on the back of your shoulder. There is also a third safety strap with a separate buckle. You can use this sling in a number of positions, including two suitable for breast-feeding, and it comes with a great instruction book explaining the various ways to use the sling.

I tried out the sling a few times but found that my body shape didn’t really suit it – I’m “plus sized” and my boobs are a bit ridiculous at the moment while I’m breastfeeding Lydia, so I felt uncomfortable trying to get the sling to sit right with them getting in the way. I didn’t feel secure using it when I wasn’t confident in the fit to my body, and Lydia wasn’t sat where she should have been in the sling. My husband James, however, really liked it so he has been testing it out and about. The rest of the review is what he had to say about it!
James liked how comfortable it was to wear, but said that as the weight is carried all on one shoulder he wanted to stop and swap sides after a little while, especially when he wore it for a full day out. Swapping sides isn’t as easy as it sounds either, as you have to reverse the lengths of the straps to swap it over.
He thought that theBabaSling was a better baby carrier than the “crotch dangler” style with straps and buckles, but didn’t find it quite as comfortable as a wrap sling. He was more willing to wear this than any of the wrap slings we’ve had in the past, saying that he thought it looked good and didn’t make him feel self conscious while he wore it.

One of the main criticisms James has about this sling is that it’s difficult to get on by yourself at first, and it took a while to get the hang of it. This got easier to do with practice though, and James said that getting it off was easy. Once you have it set up right and you’ve learned how long the straps need to be for your body type, it gets easier.
James really liked the pocket in the front of the sling as it was useful for his phone, and also a great place to tuck Lydia’s hat or socks when she didn’t want to wear them!
Lydia definitely found the sling comfortable, as she kept falling asleep in it. We went out with it on some really warm days and James felt that neither he or Lydia got too warm (or at least, no warmer than usual – Lydia radiates heat when you are just holding her!). For holidays abroad I would probably opt for a Lite sling though, if you’re heading to warmer climates.
The sling comes in a great selections of colours and patterns.
